What to Expect

Expectations

Under the direction of the Orientation Coordinator, Orientation Team Leaders will play a major role in welcoming incoming students to CSUEB. O-Team Leaders act as representatives of the university, interact with students and families on behalf of the university, and be present on Orientation days, giving campus tours, answering questions, leading groups around campus, and ensuring that the program is running smoothly. 

Orientation Team Leaders must be full time, returning students, have a GPA of 2.5 or higher, and remain in good academic standing with the University.

 

O-Team leaders are expected to participate in all orientation related activities, which can include the following:

  • O-Team recruiting (Fall 2021)
  • O-Team trainings (year round, including weekend retreat March 2022)
  • preparation activities prior to orientation day
  • orientation events (Spring orientation and Summer orientations)

Orientation is a part of Student Life and Leadership Programs office, and O-Team leaders are also expected to participate in Student Life and University events to support the department, such as:

  • Homecoming (February 2022)
  • Welcome Day (April 2022)
  • SOLAR Awards (April 2022)

Duties:  

  • Act as the face and representation of the university, and as a resource to new students and their guests
  • Answer questions about both social and academic aspects of college life
  • Interact with new students, as well as promoting students to interact during small group discussions, icebreakers, meals, and activities
  • Facilitate group activities, such as introductions, ice breakers, games, etc.
  • Ability to be flexible and deal with pressure if needed on Orientation days 
  • Serve on student panels for Student Outreach and other departments 
  • Participate in all comprehensive trainings and be responsible for all information covered during Orientation Leader training throughout Orientation
  • Facilitate social activities for new students through direct involvement and participation
  • Work closely and cooperate with other Orientation Leaders, Student Orientation Coordinators, supervisors, SLLP staff and other campus administrators to develop, prepare, implement, and evaluate Orientation programs
  • Assist with and support all aspects of the Orientation program, including campus events hosted by SLLP staff
  • Knowledge of and commitment to the goals of orientation
  • Attend all trainings, meetings, and team bonding activities as assigned by the Orientation Coordinator
  • Other duties as assigned
