Sharing results of recent staff salary study
Dear campus community,
I am writing today to share with you the results of a recent systemwide staff salary equity study.
As you may recall, the 2021-22 California budget included special one-time funding for the CSU System, directing them to conduct a staff salary equity study. That study, conducted by the Mercer consulting firm, is now complete and you can .
It’s important to note that though the state funded the study, the state has not yet provided base recurring funds to allow the system to implement these salary recommendations. The system also needs recurring funds for regular compensation increases in addition to the increases recommended in the Mercer salary study.
From my earliest days at Cal State East Bay, I heard again and again the struggles our employees have endured due to the high cost of living in the Bay Area. I have seen our challenges with recruiting and retaining the talented staff we need to fulfill our mission for the state. I have regularly and persistently advocated for correcting these salary inequities at the CSU System and in the legislature. I am pleased to see the Mercer salary study recommends regional salary adjustments that would provide some relief to Cal State East Bay employees.
Please know I am ready and willing to combine forces with our union leaders to advocate for funding from the legislature for these vital adjustments. I hope you will do your part with your collective bargaining units or as private citizens to communicate the need for full funding for the CSU with your state representative.
